Medical mycology education · Spanish-speaking, worldwide
The Mycoloyeast
A free medical mycology library for Spanish-speaking healthcare professionals: courses, a podcast and a glossary, behind real user accounts. The biggest build of the four.
The challenge
Medical mycology is a small, scattered field. The clinical guidance that a doctor in Mexico City or Bogotá needs is spread across conference posters, English-language journals and PDFs, and finding the current answer to a specific question can take an afternoon. The site's own headline names the problem: menos búsqueda, más criterio clínico (less searching, more clinical judgement).
So this was never a brochure. It needed a course catalogue with real structure, a podcast archive, a glossary, topic pages, and accounts so a professional can register and keep their place. In Spanish, for an audience that is not in Devon and never will be.
The constraint that shaped everything: the people who use it are clinicians reading between patients, often on a phone, often on hospital wifi. A platform this size usually arrives as a slow one. This one could not.
What we did
4 decisions that made the difference.
One sentence, in the reader's own words
The homepage leads with the problem rather than the product, in the vocabulary a clinician already uses, and puts the reviewing authority, Dra. Corzo-León, above the headline. On a free medical resource, who stands behind it is the first question a professional asks.
Courses that look like courses
Each course carries its running time, its topic tags and its own artwork, in a carousel on the home and a full grid on the catalogue page. A professional deciding whether to spend four hours on antifungal resistance needs those three facts before anything else.
A catalogue built to grow
Courses, sessions, a glossary and topic pages, all on the same content model, so publishing the next one is writing content rather than building a page. The catalogue is the part of the site that will be twice its current size in a year.
The podcast back-catalogue, on the site
Episodes live on the site rather than only on a podcast host, so the archive is indexable, linkable and searchable alongside the courses. It is the same audience arriving by a different door.

Google review, June 2026
Built with Astro, Tailwind, user accounts, a light/dark theme that ships dark by default, static build served by Nginx on a Hostinger VPS.
A platform this size is built the same way as a five-page site, just more of it: how I build websites.
